So what’s the score?
A remote or rural delivery means we will collect your consignment and deliver it to its destination, no matter how isolated the location. Yes, even tucked away villages and far flung islands.
For particularly hard-to-find addresses, providing a national grid reference can be helpful.
When you arrange a remote or rural delivery with us, your consignment is in safe hands. Our drivers manage everything from collection to delivery, navigating even the most challenging routes to ensure your goods arrive in the same condition in which they were collected. All we need are the basic details: the collection address, the delivery address, a description of the item and contact information for collection and delivery.
Due to the nature of these deliveries we ask that you contact us first with full details of your consignment. Whether it is a single letter, a small parcel, or a van full of goods, pricing will depend on the size, weight, and distance. This allows us to provide an accurate quote and plan the journey efficiently.
You do not need to worry about packing, although it helps if items are particularly fragile. There is no need to monitor the driver constantly, as our controllers can provide real time updates. If plans change, redirections or cancellations can be arranged quickly.
Remote and rural deliveries can involve additional challenges, including narrow country lanes, ferries and roads with limited maintenance. Our drivers are experienced in handling these situations and plan routes that are sensible. Weather, transport schedules and restricted access are all taken into account to ensure deliveries reach their destinations safely.
The difference between a remote delivery with Frigate Express and using a larger courier company is personalisation and expertise. Larger companies often focus on high volume routes and may avoid remote locations. Rural deliveries make us happy. Our drivers know how to reach the most difficult corners of the UK and adapt to any challenges along the way.
Anyone who needs goods delivered beyond the main towns and cities may use remote and rural courier services. Small businesses sending stock to distant clients, private individuals needing essential items delivered to isolated locations and organisations sending urgent parcels to hard to access areas all rely on these services. If a standard courier route does not cover it, we do.
As with everything we take extra care with fragile, high value or time sensitive items. Our drivers are trained to handle delicate consignments carefully and will always take the safest route possible while keeping you informed throughout the journey. Our aim is to make the process as straightforward as possible, allowing you to rely on Frigate Express even for the most complex deliveries.
Important documents, urgent medical supplies or collections of goods that require careful handling will reach their destination with Frigate Express. Yes, we also deliver to field engineers. From the smallest hamlet to the most isolated island, we combine experience, care and reliability to ensure no location is out of reach.
Some FAQ’s related to remote and rural deliveries.
-
1. How do I know you'll actually find the place? The last courier got lost.We understand the concern. First of all we need as much information from you as possible. Tell us what we need. No gatekeeping here. Remote deliveries often mean satnav gets confused and roads stop making sense. You can furnish us with coordinates from the national grid (https://gridreferencefinder.com/) but we’d prefer What three words (https://what3words.com/). If you don’t know about this gem then we’ll tell you. W3W divided the world into 3 metre squares and gave each square a unique combination of three words. That’s it! With these three words we can find anywhere in the world accurately. It’s a very easy way to share exact locations. Of course there are other ways to ensure we don’t get lost but using the right tech certainly helps.

2. Will there be extra charges for ferry crossings or tolls?Yes, you'll be charged for ferry crossings and tolls. We're upfront about that. If your delivery involves a ferry, bridge toll or congestion charge get in touch before booking the job and we’ll do our best to price it in competitively. Just tell us the destination and we'll calculate the full cost including any unavoidable extras.

3. What happens if the address doesn't show on sat-nav?It happens more often than you'd think. If the postcode takes us to a field or a random farm track, we don't panic. We’ll get in touch with the delivery contact. If we can’t we’ll get in touch with you, ask at a local shop. Anything. Either way we will do our utmost best to find it? Remember, we are a direct point to point courier service working for one customer at a time. This gives us the time and space to find that address and deliver! Pun intended.

4. Do I need to be there to sign for it, or can you leave it somewhere safe?We work on your instructions. If you tell us that the delivery destination has a delivery window which closes at x we’ll get it there for that time (if realistic). If you want us to leave it somewhere safe then we need to know in advance. Our goal is to get your goods to you, not to drag them back to the depot. Communication is key.

5. How far in advance do I need to book for island deliveries?Island deliveries depend on ferry schedules, space availability and sometimes the weather. For most Scottish and UK islands, booking a few days ahead is usually enough. For more remote islands with limited crossings, a week's notice gives us room to plan properly. The best approach is to contact us with the details and let us figure it all out then come back to you with timings.
